ALEXANDER CHAYANOV’S THEORY OF PEASANT FARMING AND PERSONAL SUBSIDIARY FARMS IN THE SOVIET VILLAGE (MID-1930s – 1980s)

The paper analyzes the possibility of applying theory peasant farming by Alexander Chayanov to personal subsidiary farms (LPH) collective farmers and state farm workers. It is noted that significant factors affecting their functioning were rural urbanization demographic evolution family, as well policy severe administrative restrictions on individual households. Despite unfavorable conditions for development, part-time have demonstrated stability over time. relations between family size distorted a system repressive taxation, active off-farm employment members, natural processes deformation under influence urbanization. author characterizes why LPH lost function main source livelihood. concluded ideological led an artificial archaization production within limited along route, i.e. labor-consumer balance in budget was achieved at extremely low level. On other hand, it spread non-mechanized manual labor allows largely apply provisions Chayanov’s farming.
